Who can’t resist the lure of crystal turquoise-blue water beaches with the warmth of the tropical sun? Well located in the northern coast of Lombok, Gili islands are already well-known worldwide for its enchanting beauty, especially among western tourists. The beauty of the underwater world in Gilis is no doubt one of the best in the world. Even without have to dive, you can also see the wonderful tropical coral reef with colorful fishes by just snorkeling. If you are lucky enough, you can also spot some sea turtles swimming over the reef. There are many tour agencies which provide service to get you around the Gilis, while also taking you to the best spot for snorkeling. The landscape of these islands offered to you is breathtaking; ocean view with the second highest mountain in Indonesia – Mt. Rinjani – as the background.

Gili islands are known to have the same motto: No pollution, no police, no policy

The Gilis consist of 3 little islands, called Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air, which are relatively close to each other and can be accessed by boat. Being the largest island among them, Gili Trawangan provides you with more complete facilities. There are many restaurant, pubs, café, hotels, and it has more visitors compared to the other two Gilis. What’s more is that there are always parties held every day which usually last until 2 am. This great party atmosphere in Gili Trawangan makes it popular among young people. If you’re in your 20s and party-goers, I’d recommend you to stay on Gili Trawangan. But if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful place to stay while just enjoying the nature, then Gili Meno or Gili Air would be the perfect place for you.

The only land transportation’s are just bicycles and cidomos

All those 3 Gili islands are known to have the same motto: No pollution, no police, no policy. Sounds interesting, right? No pollution means that there are no motor vehicles as they are prohibited. The only land transportation’s are just bicycles and cidomos (traditional small horse-carriage). Being in such remote place with approximately only 6 km square area, no wonder there are no police in those islands. These islands are so small that you can explore the whole island by walk or ride a bike in just a few hours, or else you can take a cidomo ride to get around the island.

The Gilis can be easily reached. There are two options to get there from Lombok, either from Bangsal Harbor or Teluk Kodek Harbor. You can take public boat from Bangsal which ticket is really cheap, but of course it’s not too comfortable. If you prefer to have faster and nicer way to cross, I’d suggest you to take fast boat from Teluk Kodek. However, if you are in Bali, there are also ferries or fast boat service available directly from Bali to Gili.

  • I like the Gili Island, tropical weather with stunning blue water with powdery white sand beach. Nothing I can asked for this beach. My perfect getaway for my busy week. Where is the best place to stay in Gili Island?
