Working out in beautiful surroundings?! Go hiking in the jungles near KL!

Sometimes, when you live in a busy and hectic city, you have the feeling that you really need to go away in the weekend.  Just a little getaway to the jungle, a quiet island or another peaceful area to escape the city life.  Unfortunately, it is not always possible to go traveling outside the city with our busy and social life in Kuala Lumpur.

Last weekend, I found a solution! Only 30 minutes away from the city centre, in the area called; Kepong, there is still jungle. The area is owned by FRIM, which stands for: Forest Research Institute Malaysia. Since 1929, FRIM is one of the leading institutions in tropical forestry research in the world.

This area is perfect to work out, enjoy the beautiful nature and listen to the sounds of the jungle. We started our walk at the giant bamboo clumps near the fish pond. From here we hiked all the way up to the top (1000 meter).Along the way; you will see the canopy walk. This walkway system spans for 150 meter and is suspended between trees at approximately 30 meter above ground level. A ticket for the Canopy walkaway cost RM 10 per adults and needs to be bought at the entrance of the park. The hike is suitable for every age and not really difficult. But believe me, you don’t need a very difficult hike to get you sweaty and exhausted in Malaysia. With 30 degrees and 80% humidity, it is quite a challenge! If you like to walk or do running on a regular base, make sure you check this article first to keep your feet safe.

On our way down, we came across a nice little waterfall. A perfect location for a pick nick! Luckily we bought some take away at the Mamak stall in the morning, so we had our lunch here. The best way to enjoy your lunch is to take of your shoes, walk through the water and climb a bit further up where it is quieter. It can be busy at the waterfall with families who are enjoying their lunch as well, especially in the weekend.

After the waterfall, it is only a 30 minutes’ walk back to the entrance of the park.
So, if you want to enjoy the nature near Kuala Lumpur…Definitely go to FRIM for a pick nick and a work out!  You will have the feeling that you are far away from the city!
