Banana Cue: The All-time Best Selling Street Food in the Philippines

Banana cue or banana kyu is a popular snack in the Philippines. This is mostly eaten as an afternoon snack and is sometimes served as dessert.

This is considered as one of the all-time best selling street food in the Philippines. It is an affordable sweet treat, as bananas are always in season in our country and are easy to grow.
A banana cue is simply made from cardaba or saba bananas, a kind of banana that grows in many tropical Asian countries like the Philippines, rolled in a brown sugar and then deep fried. It is usually skewered on a bamboo stick and is sold on the streets. This healthy-delicious snack can be eaten anywhere and anytime of the day. It is an excellent source of energy.

This is sweet, crunchy and gooey… A perfect snack for those who have sweet tooth!
Here’s a quick and easy recipe for you.

You’ll need:

10pcs. saba banana
2 cups brown sugar
Cooking oil

Procedure:

1. In a pot, heat oil until boil.
2. Add the bananas and deep fry for 3-5 minutes.
3. Add the brown sugar then put heat on low, and cook for another 5 minutes
4. Allow the sugar to melt, and then move the bananas around to have it coated with caramelized sugar.
5. Remove from pot one piece at a time and place it in a strainer, allowing the excess oil to drip.
6. Skewer the bananas and enjoy!
