Coron, Palawan is consistently giving us more reasons why we should visit it. In 2016, it is again dubbed as one of the best islands in the world by Conde Nast Traveler and National Geographic Traveler – describing it as the ultimate beach lovers destination.
What makes Coron, Palawan unique?
Who doesn’t recognize the iconic and most photographed lagoon in Coron? During our island hopping, I meet a Chinese tourist named Phi Ni and when asked why she decided to backpack in Coron, it is because she wanted to see the beauty of Kayangan Lake – one of the cleanest and clearest lakes in Asia. Another tourist, a British guy named Chirs held that the clear turquoise waters and sandy beaches of Coron are something he will love to keep coming back. “It is a stunner.” He said with a beaming smile.
Coron is often described as the sleeping giant because of the shape of the island and it also mirrors its breathtaking underworld. Forbes’ Traveler magazine named it as one of the best diving sites in the world. As you go deeper and deeper you will see that this paradise is more than a surface beauty. You will be greeted with shipwrecks that bring you back to history, colorful coral reefs and different species of fishes – and if you get lucky, you might encounter a pawikan and a dugong. Coron is undeniably for the adventure junkie, but it doesn’t mean that the non-swimmers and non-divers will miss all the fun. My swimming skills’ is so-so, good for the swimming pool, but poor in the open sea – yet it doesn’t stop me from enjoying Coron. This is, of course, thanks to the encouragement,
Swimming in Coron, Palawan
Coron is undeniably for the adventure junkie, but it doesn’t mean that the non-swimmers and non-divers will miss all the fun. My swimming skills’ is so-so, good for the swimming pool, but poor in the open sea – yet it doesn’t stop me from enjoying Coron. This is, of course, thanks to the encouragement, assistance, and humor of our tour guides who make sure that I will not leave Coron without falling in love to its exquisiteness. Indeed, conquering your aquaphobia (fear of water/drowning) is more fun in Coron.
Coron is accessible because of Busuanga airport. It is a small town and slightly populated, but jam-packed with activities. Whether you are on a soul-searching journey, barkada outing or family vacation – Coron is a must. I love the fact that I am not only smitten because of its crystal clear beaches, but also of its underwater experience. At the end of the day, I can conclude that Coron is more than a tourist destination – it is an experience.
