Unlike any other Asian city ? It’s Ha Noi, Vietnam

The capital city of Viet Nam – Ha Noi is known as the city of the lake, a beautiful and peaceful city with super friendly citizens. In this article, I will not remind you about these must-visit places in Ha Noi where many travelers and journalisst wrote about. I want to write about the reasons which make Ha Noi to be the unique city in Asian. It’s a lively and colorful lifestyle here.

As i’ve had opportunity to visit some cities in other countries, I found out Ha Noi has a very crazy traffic jam system which would terrify tourists for their first time. I know for many tourists, Ha Noi road traffic is a big risk, but after they get acquainted, you will realize that the road traffic has its own law. Once you take the leap, the only way is just go ahead and the other transports on it will give way not to crash into you.

Hanoi’s drinking street shop is also 1 of the most interesting things for tourists. Nothing is easier to find than the drinking street shop. The most popular drinks here are ice tea, lemon tea and bia hoi ( unpasteurized beer made fresh daily ). Every shop is very simple with plastic chairs in the sidewalk, drinks, and sometime paired with some food, but we can sit there for hours without being bored. It’s also a very good place to make friends. Of course there’re many nice coffee that you can enjoy with some air con and a nice view, but if you ask 100 Hanoian, 90 will answer that they prefer the street shop because it’s kind of our culture.

Old quarter is a combination of 36 streets, located near Hoan Kiem lake, which is also known as the heart of Ha Noi. It doesn’t count that you’ve been to Ha Noi, if you don’t know about the Old quarter. Every street is named by a specific product. However, nowadays many streets are not selling the products which are related to their name. Tourists can take a xich lo (cyclo ) for old quarter tour to visit all the streets, and some old houses which is integrally kept as 87 Ma May street. In the evening, Old quarter turns out to be an amazing area for entertainment with a lot of bars, pubs and clubs which attract many young Hanoians and tourists.

Every tourist that went to Ha Noi can easily feel the French taste via multiform architecture. Many wonderful French buildings remain, mostly functional and not a few sporting a fashionable bohemian decay. And it’s great place to aesthetics with Asian hospitality.

i don’t think that it’s unique thing in Ha Noi. We have the same thing here, in Ho Chi Minh

    • Yes, you’re not wrong. I’ve been to hcmc, so I know. There’re a lot of similar things between 2 biggest cities in VN. But if you’re hanoian, or at least you’ve been to Hanoi, you will feel clearly that Hanoi and hcmc are very different. I believe that others pp will think the same way with me.

      • Ha noi the way more traditional than hcm. hcm is more friendly and open-minded.

I think this article would be much better if you can distinct these features of Ha Noi more specifically since those you mentioned can easily be seen in several south east asian cities (on behalf of those who’ve never been to Hanoi ) If you focus on describing and listing, your article won’t be strong enough to attract future tourists, it would more likely be a general review with some experiences. Remember this article is about to present a distinctive Hanoi to newcomers- people who’re planning to pay a visit to HN.

Secondly, it’s definitely not a good idea to suggest people to cross roads in such dangerous way! Traffic jam is caused by our people’s bad attitude towards the law, is it appropriate to encourage tourists to be a part of it? They are not adapt to our traffic system!

Generally this is quite interesting to read, but you really need to put more efforts in this article so as to reach its demands.

    • Nhung Trân

Thank you very much for your comment. It’s the most detail consideration I’ve gotten. I really appreciate it.
Actually, this article is my first one, so Its still lack of many thing. I know I must study more to be a good author. And follow the contest, I only can write 300~400 words, so I chose these things which is most interesting and feature in ha noi, just in my point of view. Next time, I’ll put more effort to get better article. Thank you again

  • Mickey Nguyên Zũ

I would like to visit here someday 🙂

    • Nhung Trân

      Contact me if you come

  • camcarot

The article is quite good, but it would be better if the author goes deeper with Ha Noi gastronomic aspects, because this figure is also essential to make Ha Noi “unlike any other Asian city”. Concerning the article structure, its end is quite abrupt, disappointing a little bit readers. Above’s just my improvisational comment, thanks, hjhj

    • Nhung Trân

Huhu, I know I’m amateur author huhu

  • Phuong LK

    so goof ^^

  • Thanh Tùng

Nice! If we don’t complain about the traffic, price and the attitude of some “citizen”, Hanoi is also BEST place to live. I love street food, drinking and weather in Hanoi… especially in Autumn. ^^”

    • Nhung Trân

Come on, guy. Dont let one scabby sheep is enough To spoil whole flock
